This valet stand is attributed to Andé Groult. André Groult had already designed lacquered furniture such as his well-known double-tray folding side table around 1924. During this period, Groult created modern, elegant and practical designs with clear geometry and without ornamentation. Innovation was not necessarily without ornamentation for Groult. High-quality materials and finishes as well as rich decorations and colours are typical of much of his furniture.
