Folding bed, Atelier Singer – Dicker, Vienna, Austria | Designed and made 1925/26
This folding bed from the ‘Atelier Singer-Dicker’ in Vienna is one of the few surviving pieces of furniture by the Bauhaus students Friedl Dicker and Franz Singer. It dates from 1925/26 and was designed for the ladies’ room in Anny and Hans Moller’s flat at Wasagasse 36 in Vienna. It also formed part of the furnishings of the Moller House in Vienna, built in 1927–28 by Adolf Loos. This is confirmed by a photograph from 1931 and furnishing plans for the Moller House. Franz Singer, Friedl Dicker and Anny Wottitz-Moller attended Johannes Itten’s art school in Vienna together. They followed him to the Staatliches Bauhaus in Weimar in 1919.
